International Athletes

Welcome to the home of the Carina Leagues Triathlon Club. We are based in the city of Brisbane, Australia.

Brisbane, the Sub-Tropical capital of Queensland, is approximately 1000 km (600 miles) north of Sydney and is the fastest growing city in Australia. Brisbane has a population of 1.6 million people and is Australia’s third largest city. Brisbane is a popular holiday destination and a good place from which to explore Southern Queensland, including the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast.

Our climate makes Brisbane perfect for year round training. This coupled with our clubs extensive facilities, makes the Carina Leagues Triathlon Club an ideal training base for athletes wishing to apply themselves to full time training, or study and training in Australia.

Unlike many other clubs, we have a full time coach who is present at all training session.

Brisbane Climate and Weather

Brisbane has a sub-tropical climate with very hot humid summers and mild, dry, sunny winters. Most rain falls during the height of summer, between November and February.

Testimonials

The Carina Leagues Triathlon Cub has had many athletes visit Australia and train with the Club since its' inception. Countries represented so far include Norway, Hungary, Swizterland, Japan, USA.  Here are a few testimonials from recent International athletes:

Hello everyone, my name is Dominique Bugnon and I’m from Geneva, Sw1itzerland.  I have competed in a number of IronMan races around the world and, whilst I love racing and the opportunity to visit different countries, with French as my first language, I was saddened that I was not able to communicate well when racing and travelling in English speaking countries.

So I decided to learn a little bit of English. Many of you will say to me “it’s too late” but you know it’s never late - even at my age. So I decided to leave my beautiful country in October 2006 and, chose to spend time in a country that was English speaking and also that was heading into summer.  I settled on  Australia and decided to go to Queensland, but before Queensland I spent 3 months in Perth and went to school to learn English.  You may be surprised, but it was nice to start at school again after more than 20 years, but the best thing for me is it’s where I found my gorgeous Australian girlfriend, so it was wonderful.

Dominique Bugnon spent 6 months in Australia; 3 months in Perth and 3 months in Brisbane.

I moved to Brisbane in August of 2004 to live and work abroad. After playing soccer in my youth and running marathons out of college, I decided to try my hand at triathalons. I had no experience cycling and very limited experience swimming so I started from scratch.

I joined the Carina Leagues Triathlon Club shortly after moving to Brisbane and enjoyed it from the start. Because the club is geared towards youth development, it's a great environment for adults like me who are new to the sport. Rather than try to learn on my own through trial and error, I had the benefit of learning from Warick Dalziel and the great coaching staff at Carina Leagues. Most adults who take up the sport have no clue what they're doing and it shows in their training and on race day.

I got daily guidance from Warrick and his staff on what I needed to be doing in terms of swimming technique, cycling and running. Not only did I learn the technique, but he had specific training programs geared toward my ability and goals. And because the club has a mix of youth and adults, it makes for a great time training. I never realized how enjoyable the training was until I moved back to the US, and am now faced with having to train with a personal trainer (serious money) or find triathletes who are at a similar ability level to me.

My experience with the Carina Leagues Triathlon Club was awesome. I learned more in two years of triathlon training with Warrick than I ever would have at home.

Carina Leagues Triathlon Club rocks!

Brandom Gengelbach spent 2 years in Australia working and training from the States. He has just returned home.

Tamas Nogradi recently spent 12 weeks training in Australia in the off season of his home country, Hungary and Zita spent nearly 12 months here from Hungary.
