Carina Leagues Club Wins Acclaim as Queensland's Best Tri Club!
Carina Leagues Takes the Honours as the State’s Best Tri Club Again
The Carina Leagues Triathlon Club has won the prestigious Triathlon Queensland Club Premiership for the second year in a row.
Located at the Clem Jones Centre at Zahel Street Carina, the Club comprehensively beat 48 other clubs throughout the State for the sought-after award.
Carina amassed a huge overall score of 310 points under Triathlon Queensland’s assessment system.
This was a massive increase on their total tally of points last year which came to 200.
It was a huge margin above their nearest rivals in second place who recorded 173 points for the season.
Triathlon Queensland stages the Club Premiership each year to recognize the achievements and successes of elite and age group competitors, volunteers and coaches, and also to celebrate the 2011-2012 season.
Carina’s Head Coach Warwick Dalziel said all 80 members of the Club were rapt to again capture this terrific recognition.
Dalziel said the Club scored their total points across the six State Championships events - Long Course Triathlon, Sprint Distance, Olympic Distance Triathlon, Off-road Triathlon, Duathlon, and Aquathlon.
The club had 7 individual State Champions win their age category on the night.
These were in the females Lucy Smith 14-15¸Steph Burstall 16-17, Marion Hermitage 45-49 and Lorna Hepburn 50-54. While the male winners were Jordan Isaac 16-17, Declan Lane 18-19 and Phillip Hermitage 55-59 respectively.
Dalziel said this showed what he felt was the Club’s overall versatility, and the age range and types of athletes, who trained at Carina.
“This is a truly outstanding achievement for our Club and a reflection on the quality of the triathlon program conducted at the Clem Jones Centre,” Dalziel said.
“It is great credit to the many volunteers and the hard work we have put in over the years.
